SMART-HEAD Begins: A European Partnership for Sustainable Mindsets and Digital Transformation

The SMART-HEAD project officially began in autumn 2025, bringing together four European universities around a shared goal: helping students transform sustainability knowledge into everyday choices, habits and actions.

Learning that leads to action

Supported by the Erasmus+ programme, SMART-HEAD combines sustainability education with digital innovation and responsible use of artificial intelligence. The project will develop learning opportunities that are practical, engaging and accessible to students from different academic disciplines.

Instead of approaching sustainability only as a theoretical subject, the project will encourage students to apply what they learn through simple daily actions.

What SMART-HEAD will deliver

• A shared methodology for sustainability education in higher education
• A multilingual digital platform and mobile application
• 365 daily sustainability cards
• Monthly quizzes and practical micro-actions
• Progress tracking, feedback and personalised learning support
• Educational content in English, Bulgarian, Romanian and Greek

The partnership gets under way

The first online kick-off meeting took place in November 2025. It gave the partner universities an opportunity to coordinate their responsibilities, discuss the project methodology and define the first steps towards building the SMART-HEAD learning environment.

The project was also introduced at the Technical University of Sofia on 27 November 2025. Over the coming months, students and educators will play an active role in shaping its educational resources and digital tools.
